Arizona's health care continuation law requires an employer to offer continuation coverage to covered family members of a named insured who lose coverage due because of death or divorce of the insured (Sec. 20-1377, as amended by Ch. 251 (S. 1321), L. 1997).
Arizona Mini COBRA Law exceptions
AZ law does not apply to disability income policies, accidental death or dismemberment policies or single term nonrenewable policies (Sec. 20-1377, as amended by Ch. 251 (S. 1321), L. 1997).
Converting AZ group health
Each certificate of coverage must include notice of the conversion privilege (Sec. 20-1408, as amended by Ch. 251 (S. 1321), L. 1997). A person electing to convert coverage to an individual policy must make written application and pay the first premium to the insurer within 31 days following termination of coverage under the existing policy (Sec. 20-1408, as amended by Ch. 251 (S. 1321), L. 1997).
No Mini Cobra Coverage
47 of the 50 U.S. states have COBRA laws that cover smaller employers, generally called state mini-cobra laws. States that have not passed a mini-cobra law include Alabama, Alaska, and Delaware.
Among States that have mini-cobra laws, the lengths of coverage vary from 30 days to 36 months. Please refer to our Mini State COBRA Law Directory.
