cobra extension?

Postby Sir Loin » Thu Apr 07, 2011 1:48 am

I finally got my disability letter from SSA, now what do I do with it? I've been on COBRA for about 7 months.

Send it to your health plan administrator and request the 11 month extension on your COBRA continuation coverage. Was the finding made the day you lost your health insurance coverage?

The COBRA Disability Extension

Before you get too excited, if you do receive the 11 month disability extension of COBRA coverage, the premium for those additional months may be increased to 150% of the plan's total cost of coverage.

Also you must notify the COBRA administrator of the Social Security disability determination within 60 days of the date of determination and before the original 18 months of COBRA continuation expire.

That's a nice joke, how is someone on SSI going to afford 1.5 times the unsubsidized health insurance premium ? That's why god invented bk lawyers. But if you have a long term expense like disability, that might not solve.

If you are disabled, you may extend the max periods of cobra. When you're on COBRA and found under the Social Security Act to be disabled when you were terminated, as long as you notify the plan administrator, the 18 months are extended by 11 more months for a total of 29 months.

You have to forward it to the benefits office asap. Before your cobra expires, or they will not honor the additional 11 month extension. Hurry! No one in the mind would give you health insurance, until obamacrap kicks in, that is.

Now your premiums will be free or near free thanks to the new Obama Reform law. And the Insurance carriers cannot reject you for pre-existing conditions. Some people are crying because of a mandate. But that's what makes ACA work. It's a win-win, the insurance carriers win because they get your money, and you win because you get covered.
The future is now!
