divorce and no health insurance

Postby Jeanie » Fri Jun 17, 2011 1:03 pm

My husband just filed to divorce me and I have no income or healthcare coverage except through his company, since I am a stay-at-home mother. He currently has good health coverage through his employer. Since the #$^! is leaving me with our child and no paycheck, how can I still be covered under his health plan?

Talk to several lawyers that offer free consultation. You can join COBRA, but it will be expensive. Are the children healthy? If so, get them private health insurance for much less in the green box above. You may also be able to get your ex to pay some or all of the premiums.
