Divorcing and need to apply

Postby Abagail » Wed Mar 23, 2011 3:41 am

I am divorcing my mentally abusive soon to be ex-husband, but he has always supported us financially, I never handled the insurance before. Is this an occasion for cobra insurance and how do we apply?

Are you recently enrolled in the health plan, or did he un-enroll you awhile ago? I asked because you have to notify the administrator within 60 days of losing your health insurance due to legal separation or divorce.

Leason learned, always have a hand in the finances. I even let me wife do the bills, since I assume to kick off first.

Get on the phone or better yet write them you present address and have them send you the paperwork before it's too late!

Contact the HR dept. The employer has 30 days to notify the health plan admin people of the termination. The group health plan admin people have 14 days after that to get the paperwork to you. You will have 60 days to send in the election papers (don't send in a waiver) and another 45 days after that to pay the rather large premiums.
