company is being sold

If your former company goes BK

company is being sold

Postby Jorge » Fri Mar 25, 2011 9:21 pm

My former company is being broken up or sold off in parts. I do not know the status of my cobra continuing insurance. What should I do? I do not want to lose coverage and have to re qualify with a new company.

That is tough because until you know the outcome of the health insurance plan, aand as long as you get COBRA there's issue.

But it sounds like the company will be dissolved and along with it the group health, and along with that, the gobra continuation.

from the DOL:

"If, however, your employer discontinues all its health plans, COBRA continuation coverage will not be available. You will have to seek other coverage. Other coverage may be available by converting your employer's group health coverage to an individual policy. As mentioned above, you may also have rights to special enrollment in a spouse's employer's plan, or by being an "eligible individual" who is guaranteed access to individual insurance. The opportunity to buy an individual insurance policy is the same whether the individual is laid off, is fired, or quits his or her job. "

Get used to it, more companies will be closing thanks to rampant over regulation.

I heard that obamas health law will cost 3 million more jobs? Does he even have a clue, americans don't want free health care, we want to eat, put gas in our cars, and have a roof over our heads. Clueless!
