COBRA insurance questions I have gotten though Email

Can your help me get my employer to cover its error?

I just discovered I have to pay FOUR BACK months of coverage ( that I did not have to now get dental insurance because my employer neglected to enroll me at the time I was laid off. This is a great expense to me but I must pay it. I think my employer should pay it since I worked hard to even get medical. The company did not know how to hook up employees to COBRA.. I hope I can illicit some help from the program managers of COBRA. Can you help me out here. Please respond at your earliest opportunity. Where did the COBRA web site go?

Souf:

I assume you mean your employer did not know how to notify you properly of COBRA.

Employers don't enroll people in COBRA, you have to submit and pay for it yourself.

But they are supposed to give you timely notice.

If you have used the coverage in the last 4 months, or are ill now, you should consider paying the back premiums.

It's a rare thing that the employers follow the law, and correct a bad situation.

I talk to many people each day that are ready and willing to pay even back premiums (because they are ill), but their employer just blows them off.

If you are healthy, just get private health insurance here.

Hope this helps
