When your COBRA continuation benefits end

Cobra continuation ends after:

Premiums aren't paid past the grace period
Up to 36 months (Dependents and spouses)
After 18 months (Qualified beneficiaries)
You move out of the plan's coverage area
The employer discontinue group benefits
You enroll or become eligible for another group plan
You buy an individual policy
A beneficiary or spouse becomes entitled to medicare benefits.

If you are healthy:

Get your own private health insurance
Buy a lower cost Catastrophic Health Insurance plan
Buy an even lower cost Hospitalization only health insurance plan
Go without health coverage until 2014 (If Obamacare survives the courts)

If you have pre existing conditions:

Ask your health insurer about converting your policy
Get a certificate of creditable coverage
Wait 6 months to qualify for the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP)
Inquire with your state's high risk pool
