COBRA insurance questions I have gotten though Email

QUESTION: I left a good job after a new company took it over and started running it into the ground. I was employed there for 4 years and left their employ on 11/20/00 but have yet to hear anything about my COBRA options. I don't have coverage under my new employer for 90 days and have been fighting the flu season with over the counter drugs and praying my health (and my families) keeps until my 90 days are up. I am making myself sick getting worried about my lack of insurance coverage. What can I do? Doesn't my former employer have to send me the COBRA information?

Since it's been almost 2 months, and the company only has 44 days to notify you, something is amiss. Either you don't qualify or they disregarded the requirement. Do they still have a group health plan? If so, I would figure out if your qualify here.

If you don't, you can always get temporary health insurance here

Thank you for your quick reply! Yes, they still have group health insurance. The company I am referring to is a huge corporation and I was the Branch Office Manager here in Sacramento for four years. I have not received a single piece of information on COBRA and when I go to the PPO Provider web page and key in my pin, my coverage (including my family) has been terminated. I am fearful of not having the coverage. What can I do to get the COBRA information? They have not responded to my repeated e-mails and no-one at the local level knows who the new contact people are under the new parent company. Please advise, thank you.

Well, if they aren't respnding, you may want to have an investigator call them. Have you determined if you qualify? If you do, and the company is unresponsive, you will have to get the governmnet involved. If you are healthy, disregard all of this, and just get private health coverage.
