Tips about your COBRA problem:

  • Make sure you qualify for Cobra first. Usually if you work for an employer with under 20 total employees, you would not qualify for federal COBRA.
  • If you don't qualify federally because your employer has under 20 total full time employees, 46 states have mini COBRA statutes so you still might be able to get continuation coverage.
  • If your health plan ends, COBRA continuation coverage will not be available to you.
  • Scan the full text of COBRA to make sure your former employer has given you appropriate notice.
  • If you feel an employer is not applying the law, contact the Department of Labor.
