COBRA terms you should know
COBRA means: Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act
Core coverage Non vision and dental benefits
Covered employee Can also include the self-employed, agents & independent contractors
Small employer plan Fewer than 20 total employees
Plan administrator Person or sponsor designated by plan documents
Premium determination A preset 12-month period
Qualifying event Employees death or termination, reduction in hours, divorce or legal separation, or entitlement to Medicare
Qualified beneficiary An covered employee, spouse or dependent
Medicare entitlement When someone 65 (or under 65, disabled or with renal disease) signs up for SSI benefits, they qualify for Medicare
