Subsidy for State Cobra

Postby David » Fri Aug 05, 2011 11:05 am

We are located in NJ. We have less then 25 employees. Does our company have to contribute to COBRA for employees we let go? What precentage?

David:

The federal cobra premium subsidy ended on May 31, 2011.

The price of COBRA is now 100% of the employer cost, plus a small management fee.

The subsidy was a joke. Shows how outta touch politicians are about out of work americans and how much we can afford.

Not any more that I know of.

New Jersey has state continuation coverage for groups with fewer than 20 and the state Department of Banking & Insurance had issued its own guidelines on its continuation program and the subsidy. There are two links, one for the State 2009 Recovery and Reinvestment Plan, and one from the Department of Banking & Insurance dealing directly with the subsidy. Both are dead now.
