I was discharged from my employer on May 1, 2003 and have maintained health insurance coverage under COBRA for the past 16 months. My COBRA expires on October 30, 2004. I was declared disabled by my Long Term Disability Carrier, 30 days prior to my discharge and currently in the APPEALS phase with Social Security. My appeal will occur after my 18 months of CObra has expired. I have read where I can request an extension for COBRA benefits and that a few Circuit Courts have ruled that it is not neccesarily outlined where Disabilty be declared only by the Social Security Administration. I would like to extend my benefits for a total of 29 months if possible, this is important for me since the cost of my life saving medications run about $24,000 per anum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
