My COBRA plan recently (mid August) sent me a letter stating they were terminating my COBRA coverage retro active to June 1.
Their claim was that I sent them my check was returned to them for insufficient funds, although they took 3 weeks to process. I had my bank issue them a certified valid check to make sure my coverage would continue, they ignored it, and sat on that check along with my July and August premiums.
I only received notice of this cancelation on the 18th of August and in the time between June and now, I have had surgery and require additional treatments. I appealed their decision but they quickly turned it down after 2 days saying basically 'tough luck'.
For the past two months, there was no reason to think there was any problem as I continued to receive notices from them showing them covering various medical bills and prescriptions costs as recently as two weeks ago. Are they able to 'retroactively' cancel my coverage without any notification?
Is there a 3rd party that an appeal can be made to that is an unbiased group? I'm starting to think they chose to drop me because of the recent high claims being made and chose to make a mountain out of a molehill in an effort to drop me easily.
Any help would be of most help.
