Employer didn't send Cobra papers to ins. co.
I left my previous employer (300+ employees) on 12/16/03. Ins. would've ended 12/31/04 w/o cobra. I had surgery scheduled for 1/21/04 so I knew I needed cobra for an additional month.
I sent back my paperwork w/in 60 days and then paid w/in 45 days. I recv'd a letter 4/21/04 from employer confirming coverage extended until 1/31/04.
I did everything I was supposed to do. Ins. co. denied claims stating coverage ended 12/31/04. I called Ins co., they stated employer never sent them Cobra notification. I have called my prev employer and keep geting a run arounf and sent to voicemail.
Can someone tell me what my next step could be. I'm looking at a VERY large hospital bill (some has already been sent to collections) This had been a battle for months. I can understand if I screwed up some how, but I did what I was supposed to.
