COBRA continuance if I take a positon out of state

Any help/direction woul be appreciated.
I may have an opportunity for a new position in Virginia in November. My Family would perhaps stay in NH until next summer,and then move. Could I choose not to accept Health coverage from my new employer for that time, and still be eleigable for the COBRA coverage for my family ( all docs, etc for the family are in NH)? My new company will offer me insurance, but I could decline and/or get an aggreement where they would pay for some or all of my COBRA premiums. THis way my family is still coverede with local providers they have now. I would convert to my new insurance when they move.
Any thoughts, pointers on who to talk to or where to go would be great.
