If you will be in Virginia and your family in NH, then maybe you could take the new coverage, and just put the family on COBRA. They have rights independent from yours, so you don't have to take the COBRA for them to get it. That way you wouldn't be paying for COBRA on yourself, when you can probably get cheaper insurance through your new employer. You might also ask the new employer what kind of coverage and networks they offer, just in case their plan would have coverage in NH also.
