I left my job Nov. 13th for a better opportunity, and before leaving my wife had been scheduled for a medical procedure in December. Since the current medical plan had approved the surgery, I figured it would be best to go COBRA till January 1st when the next open enrollment period for my new company's medical plan occurs. This seemed resonable until I received the election packet from my former company and saw that the premium for COBRA for the month of December is going to be around $800. The premium is for family coverage, but is it possible to just pay for individual coverage for her to save some cost?
