Cal-COBRA is not a health plan, it is a state continuation program which mirrors federal COBRA. You would remain on the employer health plan for 36 months under Cal-COBRA and pay the premiums plus 10% for the coverage. If you are on Blue Cross CA PPO plan, you would continue on that plan under Cal-COBRA as a continuation beneficiary. The only time that could change would be if the employer elected a different plan or carrier - then you would have to switch along with all of the active employees.
: I am currently covered with Blue Cross PPO. After 31 years of marriage and owning several companies My soon to be not husband wants to switch my medical isurance from Blue Cross PPO to CalCobra. I have a pre existing condition. Also no faith in what he would pick for me. I have had a cerebral aneuyrsm. Six years ago I had the surgery. I can choose to stay with the Blue Cross PPO or would I be better with CalCobra? I have read and read material and am even more confused. It seems to me the Blue Cross PPO is best in this situation.
