COBRA Indiana - 6 months max.!!???

Purdue University grad student for 3 years, graduated and stayed on for what turned out to be a 'part-time' teaching position. Took COBRA in August 06.

Big hassle now because the State Department of Insurance says I can have COBRA for 18 months. The insurance company (Mega-life) tells me tomorrow is my last day and I cannot renew and that 6 months is the maximum I can have COBRA.

I called and talked to another person who told me that I am responsible for submitting the premium, they don't bill me or send notice. While on the phone this operator, I presume looking at my records, under her breath like she was talking to herself said, "oh...you have other issues here..." I asked what they were and she played like she didn't say anything.

I requested coverage for sinus surgery along with a letter from my physician stating that it was a "medical necessity", i.e. danger of cerebral or inter-cranial infection. They still denied my claim and further fail to respond to my pleas. I suspect I am one they would prefer to get rid of.

I don't quite know what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.
