Divorce COBRA nightmare
Qualified for COBRA on 9/30/05 as a result of a divorce. Have letter that states this. Made required payments every month since that date. Went to doctors on 4/26/07 at which time was told my coverage had terminated on 6/30/06. Apparently my ex husbands company switched plans on 7/1/06 and I was never notified by employer, former healthplan nor company I was making payments to. Processworks, company I was making payments to, accepted my payments for 10 additional months, says they will return money I sent to them. Not received as of yet. Called US Dept of Labor Employee Benefits Security Administration who is trying to receive answers from ex husbands company to no avail. I am the single Mom of a severely handicapped child who cannot work outside the home to retain my own insurance. I am 54 years old and have been without health insurance apparently for almost 11 months now without my knowledge and through no fault of my own. Neither myself nor my daughter have seen or heard from my ex in 2 years and 3 months. This can't be legal!!!!
