between plans, can we wait to elect until we see if we needed coverage?
This may seem crazy, but we will be covered with current insurance until Oct. 1, changing jobs and getting a new insurance policy Jan. 1. Is it possible to not elect to continue coverage until A) we need insurance due to an event and then elect and send the premium; or B) our new insurance kicks in and we didn't require coverage during those 93 days so we don't elect to continue under COBRA? I know this seems kind of shady, but we're talking about $3600 for 90 days of coverage!
