: Hello my wife has just become eligible for medicare due to a disability. I just recieved notice from my private insurance that as of 01/01/08 my wife has been dropped from my plan. I called and they said once you become eligible for medicare you are no longer allowed to stay in cobra. Does anyone know if this is true. Thank you very much.
Barry: I, also, am on SS Disability and Medicare and have insurance via COBRA and have for 16 months. Now that I'm trying to file for a continuation of coverage, I've been told the same thing by one government agency. I can't find one person or agency that has given me the same answer. I just want to know if I even qualify for the continuation. I have talked with SocSec, Medicare, my health insurance company, my health insurance agent, US Dept of Labor; I have even been given 2 opposing answers from the COBRA processing company with whom I have to file the extension. My last response was from my health insurance company(4th call); they suggested I find an attorney specializing in COBRA law. I did some research on the internet by doing a google search for 'COBRA continuation rules/laws'. You might want to start there. Good luck. You will have a difficult time with this as I have too. Dian
