Can an employee pro-rate cobra. Meaning if they only need it for a few days of the month - can the costs be pro-rated?

Also - if an employee resigns and had family insurance but his spouse is the only one who needs cobra for a month...can he elect cobra for his spouse only or must he have to take cobra as well...in order to get it for his spouse?
