You said "have an option to take COBRA coverage, or start my retiree health plan."
then you typed:
Is there any downside to taking COBRA for 18 months, then starting my retiree health plan?
"or" changed to "then"
You need to make sure you can do both. If not, I would access your insurability and see if you do choose the COBRA option, if you can get private after your COBRA expires. And it will end.

: I have been laid off from work at age 59 and have elected to start my pension. I have an option to take COBRA coverage, or start my retiree health plan. COBRA is $300/month cheaper. Is there any downside to taking COBRA for 18 months, then starting my retiree health plan?
