coverage after developing pre-existing conditions while on COBRA or HIPAA
I was laid off from work, but am eligible for COBRA. I tried to find individual health insurance, but was denied because I had an infertility consultation and test (no treatment) within the last 5 years (test showed I was healthy and basically NOT infertile). Is my only choice to go on COBRA then continue with HIPAA after my 18 months run out (because individual insurance will not accept me until 5 years after my last infertility test)? What if I develop an illness like diabetes while I'm on COBRA or HIPAA - will it make it impossible to get individual health insurance? Would my only choice, then, be to find an employer that offers group coverage (which would have to accept me regardless of any pre-existing conditions)? Thanks for your help.
