I am in a similar situation. I was self-insured, self-employed for several years. I took a company job and was laid off three months later and company medical insurance was cut off three days later. (Company policy) I elected COBRA and sought reinstatement with my old individual policy. It had to go through underwriting but was granted within a week. Do I need to pay my first COBRA policy payment? The only thing I have needed in 45 days is a prescription and I don't mind paying for that if it comes back at me. Do I need to make that first payment? Thanks.
