If they have managed to ruin your good credit due to unpaid medical claims, you may have an excellent case. A good case is where there are specific money damages and it sounds like you have a good start.
It also sounds like you have a good paper trail.
I would hire an attorney or get one on retainer to send a demand letter and maybe you can be made whole, or can file suit.
Ask to be enrolled in COBRA and money damages to your credit and reimbursement for unpaid medical bills. You can also talk to the collection companies or original creditors about paying a fraction of what they say you owe, should you get money from your former employer.
bottom line, get a free or near free consulation.

: I elected to continue coverage using COBRA through my husband previous employer because I was pregnant at the time. We did not elect coverage for my husband just for myself until our new insurance went into effect. The problem is that they enrolled my husband onto the plan and not me. This was way back in July 2008 and I have been fighting with the COBRA administrator since finally noticing the error in September. They administrator keeps telling me that they are doing an Urgent Update and that it will be fixed in 2-3 business days. Well....here were are in January and the problem is still not fixed. They did manage to remove my husband from the plan since he was never supposed to be on there in the first place but they can seem to figure out how to get my name enrolled. I have spoken to MANY supervisors who keep giving me date of resolution and promises of returned phone calls and nothing ever gets done. They have now managed to ruin my good credit due to unpaid medical claims. I don't know what recourse I have and what I can do to remedy the problem. I paid the premiums, I have the cancelled check from the payment, and I have a copy of the paperwork I sent in electing coverage for myself. Can anyone offer any kind of help??? I am so frustrated, I don't know who to call. Nobody from the COBRA administrator can seem to help me. They are all full of crap, I have lost all faith that this will be resolved. Meanwhile, I can't even re-finance my home to get a lower rate because they have destroyed my credit. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
