COBRA coverage - change in policy

I resigned on 12/24/08. My employer discontinued my health coverage because the plan was changed to NOT include part-time employees as of 1/1/09.
Am I still eleigible for COBRA because I resigned before the change?
Also, do I have to retain family coverage or can I just cover myself?
