Good news. Well maybe. How far into the new year will you remain with the company? There is no qualifying event for COBRA until you no longer have coverage.
The new new legislation adds another six months of subsidies on top of that, or 15 months in all. The original law applied only to workers who were laid off between Sept. 1, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2009. The new law extends eligibility for the subsidies to people laid of through Feb. 28, 2010.
So lets hope you are let go before the end of this Feb?
If you don't like your current plan (which COBRA would continue) You can get many prices from e-health http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-3771903-10481703 in seconds.
But with a 65% subsidy, COBRA should become more competitive now.

: I was notified I was being laid off on 11/4/09 and my date of separation from the company is 11/27/09. However, because of the WARN act i will remain on payroll and with insurance into the new year. Does anyone know if I will be eligible for the COBRA subsidy since I was terminated on 11/27/09? It seems like I should, but no one can seem to give me an answer...just concerned the gov't may not re-up this program and I certainly can't afford almost $600 month..at the same time I also can't afford to not have insurance... :(
