If you work for a smaller employer, a non profit or church, you may not qualify for COBRA. Assuming you qualify, you have 60 days to elect after recieving the COBRa paperwork. You will be subsidized for 35% of the premium.

: I have been notified that I will be released from my employer at the end of this month. I presently have health insurance coverage for my wife and myself through the company. What will the process be regarding Cobra insurance for us? How soon do I need to apply? What is the cost?
