Sadly, if you were let go about 1.5 months later, you would have qualified for the 65% COBRA subsidy. 6-8 years ago, healthcare was much cheaper, the government hadn't boosted or subsidized health care into the stratosphere.

: I was let go from my job a week ago. The COBRA information I was provided by my former employer states that my cost to continue being covered is nearly $900 a month, which is half of what my monthly salary was. I can't believe it's so expensive!
: I was on COBRA about 6 years ago and it was $170 a month. What is it that accounts for such a drastic difference, and do I have any options? I'm investigating other plans, but I simply cannot afford private insurance (as much as I would love to be able to pay for it). My primary concerns at this point are for my medications, which I need to take every day.
