Notification of termination
My husband has been out of work on disability since October 2004. He has been on their policy since then and I have been paying our share of the premium $209.00 monthly. I sent them a check for the May payment and it has been cashed. Yesterday, during a call to the insurance company, I found out that our insurance had been cancelled on 5/6/05. We have received nothing from his employer advising that they had terminated him or anything regarding Cobra.
When I called them this morning they told me that he had been terminated on May 1, 2005. They told me this happened because we were in the Cigna program, however, not in theirs. An organization called Benefits Outsource should have done it. I say they are still responsible. They are the employer. My question, basically, is how long, according to law does an employer have to notify you about your rights to Cobra?
