Cancelled due to hurricane
I live in Panama City Beach, Florida. We were hit hard by Hurrican Ivan. We had damage to our home, property, etc. The company I work for was without power and phones for over 3 weeks. I could not get in touch with them. Needless to say money was short and damage was in excess. I called CobraServ in St. Petersburg, FL to let them know I had sold my condo to make payment but that the closing was on OCT 29, 2004 at 4pm and even offered to send them copies of the closing. My check went into my account on Oct 29 but was held for 7 days. I mailed premiums for two months on November 3 and was cancelled, and my check returned uncashed for being postmarked two days late. I have been on worker's compensation for a torn rotator cuff and now cannot get my surgery to go back to work because I am without insurance to pay any other Rx's or doctor charges. Cobra say all their rules are black and white and they don't care about my insurance or the Hurricane. Unfortunately life is not so black and white. Do I have any recourse in this situation. I have considered getting a lawyer. I had even called them to let them know the day I was mailing the check to them. They were very rude and hateful. Please advise. Thank you.
