My current Cobra coverage through my previous employer should be up in April. I have been trying to cancel my Cobra policy and enroll with my new company now. The new insurance company requires a Certificate of Credible Coverage. The problem is the company that I have Cobra through recently went Bankrupt, and nobody is answering any calls and is no longer at the previous address. I have exhausted all means of contacting them. The insurance company I have the Cobra coverage with will not terminate my policy directly, they insist it must be cancelled by my previous employer (owner of the policy)who no longer exists. They can only confirm for me I am still active in the system today, they will not confirm if premiums have been paid by previous employer. Payments which I had been mailing to the previous employer. Which also means they may just be sending in late notices to a vacant building, and at some point will cancel all enrollees policys for non payment.

I want to cancel my policy so I do not find out months down the road it is terminated. I have some serious health issues that require ongoing weekly treatments.

What can I do? Even contacting the DOL Cobra Hotline, they can only advise me of the bankruptcy and that the company should be sending out a notice at some point.

I want to get off Cobra immediately so I don't have to worry about loss of coverage while sick.
