Monica, your ex's employer is only required to offer you the coverage that you had previously. So if it was only CA coverage, they would have no requirement to set up any special coverage for you in Texas. You should contact the carrier to find out about how big their network is (is it really only in CA?) and what the out of area options are if so. It could be that you might only be able to use emergency coverage if you are out of the area. Then I would also contact the employer to see if they offer any other coverage options. Some employers give a choice between 2 or more plans. If they have other choices already, then they may have to allow you to change to another choice if you could get better coverage due to moving out of the area of your previous choice. If they do only have the one choice, they do not have to set up another one for you. Good luck.
