Cobra Penalties for not offering Cobra
My girlfriend in NY was divorced June 04 and was covered under her husbands Univera policy thru American Axle Plant. Her husband verbaly notified HR of the divorce according to him within 30 days of dv. She called Univera several times thruout the year and they kept saying she was covered. On April 12 she recieved a letter from Univera that her Insurance ended June 1, 05. She has to repay thousands of dollars (the insurance company withdrew payment) of medical bills. American Axle still and has always refused to speak with her and still has not offerd Cobra. Her work will not give her insurance because of the lapse in coverage.
