: Hi.
: If I voluntarily terminate employment on May 31st, and my coverage expires on May 31st, am I qualified for COBRA, or should I terminate a day earlier?
: If I plan to take a job one week later, with immediate coverage, I really only have one week to worry about having no coverage. Would I likely have to pay cash for prescriptions or other medical, and then get reimbursement under COBRA coverage? Any other suggestions? Thanks very much. Nice message board.

You have 60 days to enroll in COBRA after you lose coverage because of voluntary termination.
You pay the entire premium + 2@. It gets pretty expensive. Since you only have to go a week without coverage, I would try and pick up any regular prescriptions before coverage runs out. If you have a major emergency prior to getting coverage from new company, then you will have to decide if you want to stick with COBRA so they will cover your emergency or enroll in the new companies plan. If you sign up for insurance with new company, you can't enroll in COBRA. Just stay healthy that week and you will be ok.

PS. I'm not an expert on COBRA, just interested party that has gone through some of this.
