I read on the cobra benefit web page that it was written and produced by the PWBA. Jane Smith of the PWBA in Washington has told me that not only can COBRA up my premiums but they can single me out by age.HAS THE COBRA LAWS CHANGED? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 102%. I took early retirement at 63+. While working, I paid $84 and my company $84 monthly for my health benifits. when I signed up for COBRA,the paper said I was to pay $214 for the next 18 months.(this is more than 102 %) I paid the premiums for 3 months and got a letter telling me my premiums has been increased to $476 Monthly. THE PREMIUMS DID NOT INCREASE FOR THE PEOPLE I WORKED WITH. The insurance co. said it was to do with the actuary and determination period. What is a determination period? Can this insurance co. do this? WHY IS IT NOT INCREASED TO ALL PEOPLE THAT HAS ELECTED COBRA? Is the COBRA laws not worth the paper that they written on? I thought they were written to help the people. Thank you Pat Copley
