No you have 60 days to elect cobra after you get your notice, and 45 days to pay for cobra after you elect.
18 months is the total duration of your time spent on COBRA, not your election time.

But within the election period, you can wait to use it, then as long as it's within 60 days of getting your form, elect the continuation coverage.

But if you are healthy, COBRA may not be the cheapest way to go. Get
your own health insurance with a lower premium.

: I was told that you can apply for and pay for COBRA retroactively.

: So can I NOT elect COBRA Coverage and then if I need it, get it anytime after (as long as it's within the 18 month deadline)?
