I've gotten enough info from the DOL and this board to be reasonably sure I have blown my COBRA and continued coverage for pre-existing conditions after years of vigilance to maintain coverage, but I'll take a shot at this board anyway.
I lost a job on 10/28, and after filing for COBRA in Decemeber, I had untul 1/28 to pay my first 3 months of premiums. I was broke, so I waited until mid-January to finally send the check to get current. I used registered mail; I confirmed the check was received and processed.
But the check was bad; my credit union had mistakenly told me that my checks would draw off of my healthy savings account balance, but instead the checks were pointed to a non-existent checking account that I never opened with them. Ir was stupidity on my part, but my credit union has supported me admitting I had been misled.
But I didn't discover that the check didn't go through until after the grace period was over. CobraServ, as everyone on this board probably knows, was extremely rude and unhelpful, but they gave me the impression that sending an explanation to their "special handling" might resolve matters.
But now they say my termination is termianted with zero chance of reinstatement.
DOL says Cobraserv has no obligation to reinstate me, and I understand this.
Is there any angle I am missing that could help me?
