: I was informed by the administrative business service my x-employer used that the employer terminated with them, and that the new health care provider needed to be contacted, that my COBRA benefits would be continued there. After speaking to office personnel in my x-employers office, I received a call from the boss who gave me the new health care provider's information with a number to call, and the message that the new provider could elect not to cover me.
: Has anyone gone throught this, and what can I expect?
: Thanks, Donna
Well Donna, my understanding is that they are flat out 'wrong' in what they told you. Whether they switch insurance carriers or not that is a federal law as far as Cobra coverage and elegibility goes. They HAVE to insure you. An exemployer can switch insurance carriers as many times as they want, however that exact same coverage has to be offered to anyone on COBRA or eligible for COBRA. I would contact your state DOL.
good luck!
