Bob:

I know how you feel, sadly, medications thesedays are so expensive, the insruance carriers feel they are buying claims, when they underwrite people with pre existing conditions.

And since you are a retiring or senior business owner, I will guess you don't qualify for Medicaid. Is the state you are considering moving to included in your health plan coverage area?

Most state mini COBRA laws extend to employers wiht 2 or more people. So as a group of 1, i don't know how you could get COBRA. Check with your state's high risk insurance pool.

You can also check with professional associations and your chamber of commerce, some still have group plans available.

Please respond if you have further questions and keep us updated on your situation,

: I am the sole employer and employee of a one-person group HMO with Humana in Florida. I am self-employed, but considering retiring to care for my sick wife (on Medicare) and hopefully move to another state. So I would have to terminate my present group coverage and find new health insurance. I am 62 years old with some pre-existing health conditions (not heart or cancer)that are controlled with meds. I have been told my independent insurance agents that I would not be medically underwritten and that I needed some kind of guaranteed issue. What options do I have for new health coverage? What, if any, government health programs would I qualify for. I feel stuck and frustrated. All help is appreciated. Thanks, Bob
