Your son-in-law needs to make the election in writing certified mail, return receipt requested.
: COBRA is not an entity. It is a statute requring your son-in-law's former medical plan to provide 18 months of coverage at your son-in-law's expense.
: Even if the coverage is too expensive to pay your son-in-law should elect it on the 50th day following the date of the notice. He does not have to pay until the 45th day. He would do this to keep coverage to avoid the preexisitng condition limitation in your son-in-law's new employer's plan.
: : My daughter(self employed) & her husband(recently laid off), have no children, just received a letter from COBRA that to continue to have medical coverage, the premium would be $800.00 per month for them. Is COBRA serious? Who could possibly afford that kind of money per month? COBRA acts like they're doing you a favor, what an insult.
