: I retired 12/31/02 at age 62 and 2 months. My COBRA coverage began 1/1/03.

: I read the following in the Orange County Register dated 3/10/03: "A new California law will require employers to provide COBRA for 36 months. The requirement doesn't take effect until Sept. 1 and only applies to people who began receiving COBRA "AFTER" 1/1/03."

: Does this mean that since I BEGAN COBRA 1/1/03 that I may not be eligible? I need coverage until I am eligible for Medicare.

: Thanks for any light you can shed on this subject.

: Diana

Since COBRA is a Federal Law, I don't see how California could make any changes to the Law as it stands.
