Medicare approved now, does my COBRA end?

I just received Medicare and I read on my COBRA carrier's fine print that my COBRA coverage ends when Medicare starts. Is there any lead time or grace period when you are allowed to continue the COBRA coverage? I'm in the middle of IV antibiotic therapy and I thought I was completely covered on my COBRA carrier's plan, but Medicare back dated my benefits to start on April 1, 2003. Would Medicare have been my only carrier on that date and forward? The problem is that they notified me over a month after it started so which one is going to pay the Dr's. and IV bills?

Is their any way whatsoever to continue the COBRA as a secondary carrier to Medicare until my COBRA period ends?
