I don't know why they would shorten the length of time you have to enroll.
COBRA clearly states you have 45 days to pay, and 60 days to choose, from the date the notice is sent.
Do the plan rules allow for a shortened 10 day enrollment? You might be getting improperly noticed, unless there is a mini cobra law out there for your state.
You might want to conference the department of labor and your health plan administrator to fix this problem.
If you have no or only minor pre existing conditions, get quotes for major medical coverage, it might be a lot less than COBRA.

: I was layed off and recieved a letter that my insurance would expire on 6/30. I was given the cobra information but the letter states I have 10 days to make a choice failure to do so will terminate your right to continue coverage. I thought the law states you have up to 60 days to decide? I ma interviewing for new jobs and hopefully will get new insurance. i would hate to have to pay the $1000 premium and not need to?
: What is the law?
: Can you ride it out 30 days?
: Thanks
