Can Americorps volunteers sign up with COBRA?

Message: I am an Americorps volunteer, through a program called Public
Allies North Carolina. I have been receiving health care coverage
through Strategic Resource Company from Columbia, SC, as part of my
service benefits for Americorps. My term of service ends July 4, 2003.
Am I eligible to elect COBRA to cover my health insurance after the 4th
of July?

On the list of things that make one ineligible for COBRA, I was fine on
all, but was concerned about the "federal employee" question. I am a
paid volunteer, and a small part of my stipend comes from the federal
government. My check comes from the Public Allies organization, a
nationwide service organization.

If I am eligible, will I still be able to receive the same coverage I
have now, and how much will it cost me per month?

Thanks so much!

Also, is there a phone number I can call to find out more?

Sincerely,
Beth Salmon
