At birth the baby will be covered under your policy. You need to check with your husband's former employer to find out the time frame that they have to enroll they newborn under the COBRA continuation. Generally the baby can be enrolled from day 1 up to 90 days after the birth. Until the newborn is enrolled under the plan, he/she will be covered under your insurance.

Also, be sure to check the premium rate for COBRA continuation when adding the child. You might be better off buying a separate individual policy for the baby (it may be cheaper). Be aware that carriers break children into generally two age bands for premium, 0-1 years old and 1-18 years old. The premiums are higher for 0-1 than for 1-18.

: I have no idea how this works and was hoping someone would help me.

: I am 8 months pregnant. My husband lost his job a few months ago so we elected COBRA for myself to cover the pregnancy. He still has not found another job so our only source of income right now is unemployment.

: What will happen once I go into labor? Will COBRA cover my baby, under my policy, once she is born? If not, am I eligible to add her to my current policy through COBRA?

: I live in Georgia.

: Thank you for your help
