With pre-existing conditions and large Rx costs, you are probably best off looking at either HIPAA or a conversion plan if your previous group health carrier offers one.

HIPAA varies from state to state in how it is acquired. I would recommend contacting a local independent agent to find out how the HIPAA plans work in Florida.

In California, you buy them directly from the insurance companies that sell individual health plans in the state. Could be the same in Florida or it might be handled through the state's Major Risk Pool like Illinois.

: COBRA just ended for me, and I have no other insurance avail. I have pre-existing conditions, and about $400.month in meds. I need some advice on what I need to do to request an individual policy thru HIPPA, or ??? I am in the Orlando,FL area. The FL state mini COBRA page only mentions small employers. I used to work for an insurance company, with 15K employees worldwide. Thanks for any and all help anyone can provide! Peace! B.
