: Jason,
: COBRA coverage is ALWAYS retroactive to the last date of your group coverage as an active employee. If your group ended 5/31 and you chose to enroll in COBRA on 8/15, you'd be covered back to 6/1. Please remember you must pay the back premiums though. So, in this case you elect 8/15 you'd need to pay June, July and August premiums.

: : My wife and I are considering applying for COBRA through her
: : most recent job. I read through the text of the law and just wanted to
: : make sure I understand the "ELECTION" section. It seems to say that my
: : wife and I have 60 days to decide whether we want it or not and that we
: : can wait to enroll until we need the insurance. Say for instance I need
: : immediate medical treatment during that 60 days while we are still
: : elligible but have not yet enrolled, my wife and I could enroll at that
: : point and the treatment would be covered under COBRA retroactively even
: : after the medical service has been rendered. Is this correct? Thank
: : you. Sincerely, Jason Gebhardt
